When to convert JPG to PNG
PNG is useful when an application specifically requires PNG, or when you want a lossless file for future edits, screenshots, overlays or design work. The conversion preserves the JPG as it currently looks without adding another lossy encoding step.
Keep the original dimensions for a faithful conversion. PNG does not use a quality slider because its image compression is lossless.
Converting a JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already removed by JPG compression, and the resulting PNG may be larger.

JPG to PNG questions
Will JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG prevents another lossy encoding step, but it cannot recover detail that was already removed from the JPG.
Will the PNG have transparency?
The PNG format supports transparency, but converting an ordinary JPG does not automatically remove its background or create transparent pixels.
Why is the converted PNG larger?
PNG stores pixels losslessly, while JPG is optimized for compact photographic images. A larger result is normal for many photos.
